Volunteering at School or During Field Trips
For the safety of students and staff, all volunteers are required to submit a Volunteer Application and Volunteer Background Check, after reviewing the PPS volunteer Code of Conduct and an online training document. Everything you need can be found here: https://www.pps.net/volunteer We encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible, as the paperwork can take up to a few weeks to go through.

Crossing Guard
When: Before and after school
Where: Intersection of Ainsworth and Montana
Requested by: Principal Rierson

Additional details:
Some parents and staff have shared concerns about the safety of the Ainsworth & Montana intersection during drop-off and pick-up. In past years, community members have volunteered as crossing guards, and Principal Rierson would like to support a restart of this tradition. If you can help, whether just once or twice or on a regular basis, please reach out to Principal Rierson.
Planning & Day-of Teams
When: Now (planning); Friday, June 9th
Where: virtual planning + event at Peninsula Park
Requested by: OG Supporters in coordination with OGMS Staff and 8th Grade students

Additional Details: There's a tradition at OGMS of parents organizing a BBQ for 8th grade students as part of their promotion celebrations. OG Supporters is looking for community members who are interested in sourcing donations (food and decor) and planning a fun picnic. Later, we'll be looking for people to help with set up and serving on the day of the picnic, typically between 11am and 2pm on a school day.
Math Helper
When: During school hours
Where: 7th grade math classroom (and, likely other grades, too)
Requested by: 7th grade math teacher, Mr. Patterson

Additional details: Having an extra adult or two in class to offer encouragement and assistance can boost student confidence and comprehension. The main prerequisite, after clearing the PPS Volunteer registration process, is that you’re patient, positive, and willing to learn. Content expertise is not required.
School Garden Care Team Member
When: Flexible; Year round
Where: OGMS
